How do we value Domains?
Generic Names
- Examples of generic names include domains like autoloans.com, financialaid.com, debtconsolidation.com, creditcards.com, etc. These names are extremely valuable for their generic value, brandable value and natural traffic associated with them. These domains are worth seven figures.
Brandable Domains
- Examples of brandable names would be ones like Amazon.com, Priceline.com and youtube.com
- Other brandabes would include names like WeddingStore.com, TravelPlanet.com, MusicWorld.com, etc. These names can be branded and more importantly remembered by your customers.
- A good domain should always be able to pass the “Radio Test”. That is, if you were listening to The radio and heard a commercial using the domain, is it easy to pronounce and remember?
- A domain with a hyphen or that is NOT a DOT COM, will lose out as consumers will almost always default to the dot com when trying to remember a website name.
Websites
Websites that have a good solid domain are more valuable for many reasons. They can be easily distinguished and remembered by the customer as mentioned above. Websites are valued in general by the Domain, organic search traffic ( through search engines) , type-in traffic ( users who type-in domain directly in their browser bypassing any listing or ad) and Revenue.
